This month the Prima Bead team was sent a surprise selection of beads based on our replies to a survey. Based on my replies, I received alot of purple and black items, mainly because those are the colors Katie likes and I make most of my jewelry for her. Er, well, I make the jewelry and then she ends up with it!

I made this purple statement necklace with Katie in mind and then I really started liking it for myself! Too bad, the girl already snagged it….but you may just see me wearing it to CHA or an event soon! I love the look of layered and heavily beaded necklaces – they're perfect for Fall and make a great statement as well. For this piece, I used beads from 3 different packs and wire wrapped 1-4 beads for each dangle.

This purple statement necklace is a perfect “in front of the TV” type of project. First I laid out a beading mat and arranged the beads and head pins I planned to use. I strung the beads onto the head pins and laid them out in rows. Then I started the wire wrapping process, using pliers. Once all of the beads had been wire wrapped. I cut a length of larger loop chain and attached it to two shorter pieces of smaller diameter chain. The heavier, wider chain provides a  good sturdy base for all of the beads to hang from.

Next, I laid the beads in a pattern in the order that I would attach them to the chain. I found the center of the chain and attached the center bead from the pattern to that link. Then I worked out from the center, adding all of the beads with jump rings. This purple statement necklace literally took one evening of watching a couple of our favorite shows to create.
