It's fall and that means time to bring out the sweaters, the crochet, and the cowls! Last year my friend Kelsey made this gorgeous candy striped peppermint cowl for me. Actually, she made it to sell in my craft fair booth and I loved it so much that Xaver bought it for me for Christmas. Its is one of my fave things to wear in the winter because Christmas is my all-time favorite holiday.

The one thing about cowls that annoys me is that they want to unfold and creep up over my face. After a while all of a sudden half my cheek or my mouth is covered by the creeping cowl and I am forever wrangling and adjusting. I had thought there has to be a tie down or  maybe I can tie a piece of ribbon around it to keep it all coiled up and in place but none of those solutions sounded very pretty.

When I received a gorgeous shipment of fun and festive beads from the ‘Tis The Season Collection from PrimaBead™, I had an epiphany. These beads would be perfect to create a “cowl wrangler” to hold the cowl in place! As a bonus, I realized that the “cowl wrangler” can double as a necklace.

Here's how to create this cowl wrangler:

  1. Cut a length of Cousin Craft & Jewelry 0.3mm Bead Wire – Black, 7 Strand, 40 feet to wrap around the cowl twice (loosely) plus an additional 6″.
  2. Thread a Silver Plate 2x3mm Crimp Bead onto one end of the Cousin Craft & Jewelry 0.3mm Bead Wire – Black, 7 Strand, 40 feet. Thread the wire through a Silver Jump Ring and then back through the crimp bead. Set the crimp bead with the 1 Step Crimp Tool.
  3. Arrange assorted beads from the ‘Tis The Season Collection from PrimaBead onto a Cousin Bead Palette. Thread onto the Cousin Craft & Jewelry 0.3mm Bead Wire – Black, 7 Strand, 40 feet  until about 4″ of wire is left.
  4. Thread a Silver Plate 2x3mm Crimp Bead onto the Cousin Craft & Jewelry 0.3mm Bead Wire – Black, 7 Strand, 40 feet. Thread the wire through a Silver Jump Ring and then back through the crimp bead. Set the crimp bead with the 1 Step Crimp Tool.
  5. Add a Silver Lobster Claw to one of the jump rings.
  6. Using Silver Jump Rings, add the ‘Tis the Season Christmas Tag Charm and the Snowman Charm from the 4 Piece ‘Tis the Season Charms – Multi set.
  7. Wrap the beaded “wrangler” around the cowl and then fasten closed with the Silver Lobster Claw.

Are you ready for cowl weather too? I hope this inspires you to create a beaded “wrangler”  for your cowl – it dresses up the cowl a bit, controls it, and, on warmer days you can use the “wrangler” as a necklace!

I hope you enjoyed today's post!

  1. Great post Jennifer! I hope never to suffer from ‘creeping cowl’ but if I do, your ‘wrangler’ solution is just perfect and very pretty too!
