This week I am participating in a Splurge vs. Save challenge at CreditCardInsider.com. Ever since our tough wake up call year last year, we have been on a strict budget and that means it cut into my home decor shopping habits severely. Just because I am trying to save, doesn't mean we don't have things that need to be replaced or updated.

We're in the midst of a family room remodel and with that, I am changing the colors in the room. We're replacing things piece by piece, trying to do it affordably and strategically.

Marshmallow (you know, our cat) had an issue with another kitty who had come to live with us for a while and he pretty much ruined our back door rug because of it. For a while we went with concrete and then I tried a stand-in rug that was totally the wrong colors and size. Last week I was at Target and I spotted an endcap full of clearance rugs! They looked pretty similar to this gorgeous rug from West Elm:

I picked up the rug and put in my cart. The rug was marked down to $14.98 from $29.99! Then I opened up the Cartwheel app and found a deal for 15% off all Threshold rugs – I checked and this rug was the Threshold brand. I then used my Target RED Card at checkout for another 5% off.

Here is what happened at the checkout:

$29.99 Original Price

-$14.98 Discount

-$2.25 Cartwheel Discount

-$0.64 RED Card 5% off

TOTAL = $12.09!!

I kinda scored ;) Here's what it looks like at my door:

I am so happy with the end result and got the look I had been dreaming over! Woohooo!
