In case you missed today's class, here are the instructions! This class was a one time offering and I don't post intructions very often so take advantage while you can!

I know we all have jars and jars of Primas and other fun flowers we have purchased with the best intentions but they are still sitting in our scrap rooms and rolling totes YEARS after we bought them.

One barrier to using the flowers is our tendency to think we have to use all the same brand on a page or that they must match perfectly. I got inspired in January when I went to Queen & Co's booth at CHA. They had done the coolest effects with their plastic “Fab Flowers”!! So I went home and started playing with what I have, which happened to be a little bit of everything and not ALOT of anything! The colors didn't really match but they were basically similar so I went with it. I loved the look of blending fabric flowers with plastic flowers, felt flowers with mulberry flowers and gems…just combining things that didn't “go” together produced the coolest look. Here is the first layout I did with this technique:

I has so much fun doing that layout! I figured the best way to share these fun flower techniques was to teach a class.

If you want to do this one at home and you didn't sign up for my class, the flowers I used are from
Prima, Queen & Co, Dollar Tree, the $1 Spot at Target, Petaloo, and various other companies. The mini plastic flowers are only available at Scrappin‘ Good Times. They should have more available by the end of the week so check back after 7-7-07. Some of the flowers I made using felt or acetate and the Accu-Cut die cutting system at Scrappin‘ Good Times.

Getting started:

1.Acetate flowers may have a cloudy film on them. This must be removed from each side of the flower to reveal the clear flower.

2.CS= Cardstock

3.PP = Patterned Paper

4.Papers are double sided. It may be green on one side and pink on the other so flip your pieces to see the color on the reverse when checking for them.

5.Glue dots work best for adhering flowers.

6.PVA recommended for die cut shapes.

One page layout (blue with white mats):

  1. Rotate paper so the flower pattern falls from the upper left of page down to lower right. A big red flower should be in the lower right hand corner of the page. Trim UPC code strip and discard.

  2. Adhere small mat to upper right side of page, flush with the edge, about ½” from the top of the page.

  3. Adhere the 5×7 mat to the lower left side of page, flush with the edge, about 1” from the bottom of the page.

  4. From the baggie provided, select:

  • 2 large green plastic flowers

  • 1 small green plastic flower

  • 1 small blue plastic flower

  • Four 2” size acetate flowers
  • 2 blue glitter cs flowers

  • 4 white glitter cs fuchsia-shaped flowers

  • 3 white glitter cs flower doodads

  • 2 white glitter cs swirls
  • 2 small pink glitter cs paper asterisks
  • 2 large pink glitter cs asterisks
  • Adhere flowers to page as shown in the picture or as desired.

Tin:

  1. Locate 1¾” x 12” strip of purple pp.

  2. Adhere three green ribbon strips vertically to the strip, folding ends under the paper and gluing to the back. This is so the bottom edges of the ribbons do not fray from use.

  3. Select from the bag:

  • 1 white mulberry flower

  • 1 pink mulberry flower

  • 1 magenta mini plastic flower

  • 1 blue plastic flower

  • 1 purple plastic mini flower

  • 1 white plastic flower

  • 1 clear plastic mini flower

  1. Adhere flowers to tops of ribbons stems as shown.

  2. The flower for the lid is already assembled however; you need to put the finishing touches on. Disassemble the flower. Remove any film from the acetate flower if there is any. Bend the petals on the small plastic blue flower. Reassemble. Attach to center of lid with glue dot.

  3. Wrap purple with blue dot ribbon around rim of lid and adhere. Save excess.

WISH 2 page Layout (purple and green):

  1. Adhere small green strip to upper right hand side of page.

  2. Locate bag #1. Adhere purple half flower to back side of short scalloped edge of the scalloped purple pp.

  3. The pre-assembled flower in bag #1 is for the “I” on “wish”. Set aside.

  4. Adhere scallop/flower strip to top of page, overlapping green strip.

  5. Assemble flower from Bag #1 as shown in the picture.

  6. Pinch the petals of the plastic flowers between your fingers to make a crease in the middle for a 3D effect.

  7. Chipboard pieces go on the bottom flower. You may need to flip you chipboard piece over if the die cut flower does not fit correctly.

  8. Adhere flower #1 top of purple half flower on the page.

  9. Locate bag #2 and assemble flower as shown in the picture. Adhere to bottom left side of page.

  10. Set page 1 aside.

  11. Adhere long green strip to top of page 2.

  12. Adhere half circle to right hand side of page 2, with purple circle pattern showing.

  13. Locate bags 3 and 4 and assemble flowers. Bag 4 has two flowers that are already assembled. These go on the page near the flower in bag 4.

  14. Assemble the flower in the last baggie. It also has two pre-assembled flowers that go on the page near it.

  15. Arrange flowers on page as shown in the picture. Adhere to page.

  16. Ink the “wish” word by tapping a lavender or other purple chalk cat eye all over it to cover the white cs.

  17. Cut off the flame on the “I”.

  18. Adhere “wish” to page. Adorn “I” with flower.

“Sweet” Card:

  1. Adhere 4 green ribbon strips to front of card, as pictured, tucking ends under as you did on the tin.

  2. Make flowers from the two smallest ribbon pieces by looping them around and adhering the bottom of one end to the top of the other end. Tuck under a ribbon “stem” to adhere.

  3. Trim two felt flowers from the felt piece provided. Adhere these to two of the flowers as shown.

  4. With black thread (not provided) you will stitch a five pointed star shape at the top of each of the two remaining flowers. It should look like an asterisk (*) with the thread all going through a hole in the middle. It doesn’t matter how you accomplish this, just make the asterisk shape.

  5. Thread your ribbon onto a size #7 yarn darner needle (not provided). You can do this by hand but it is easier with a needle. If you have the Making Memories tool kit in the metal case, one of the needles provided in there will work fine.

  6. Thread the ribbon under one of the arms of the thread asterisk. Hold the end of the ribbon down with your thumb to hold it secure until you have enough “stitches” to hold it in place.

  7. Thread the ribbon around the asterisk going over and under the threads. So you will go under the first thread, over the second thread (or arm of the *) under the third arm, over the 4th arm, and so on. You are weaving the ribbon in a circle through the *. Don’t pull too tight as you may break your thread but gently pull so there is not a lot of ribbon looping out of the flower. You want to make a pretty tight flower.

  8. As soon as you have gone around a couple of times, you can let go of the end you are holding with your thumb.

  9. As soon as you have gone around as much as you can, trim the ribbon and tuck the edge under your flower. Trim the ribbon you were holding with your thumb and tuck under flower as well.

  10. Repeat with turquoise ribbon for the second flower.

  11. Adhere the card front to the card itself, securing the back of the thread with a glue dot so that it won’t pop loose.

  12. And you’re done!
