What Matters Most…

That's the title of the blog of a friend of mine, Michelle, who owns The Scrappin' Table, a super cute scrapbooking store in Placentia, CA. And it is ALSO a topic she challenged a group of scrappers to ponder.

So what does matter most?

I, for one, get really caught up in the everyday nonsense and tend to lose track of what really matters. Hey, I'll be the first to tell ya I'm not perfect! LOL I have the “Don't Sweat The Small Stuff” Book AND Workbook and those of you know know me know that I still really sweat the small stuff. To me, the small stuff really seems to matter the most on a day to day basis.

But I know that it really doesn't matter the most to me. When I take a step back and ask myself “what does it all mean?”, “why do I do what I do?” that leads to the definition of what matters most to me: how best did I use this life and my time here on earth to serve God, however that may manifest itself? For me that doesn't mean I have to be an evangelical preacher. To use this life to the best is to appreciate, love, and spend time with my family. It's to use my unique abilities, talents, and resources to make a difference in someone else's life, be it through my work with Girl Scouts, volunteering for Scrapbook Royalty, or being active in my community. It's sharing the joy I feel from scrapbooking with other people, being inspired by them, and just having a really good time doing it! It's playing the Wii (and lots of board games) with my parents and nephews and laughing until I can't breathe and knowing that we will look back on those times someday and smile at the memories. It's staying home with my kids, sacrificing making money, so that I can be here for them every day, from morning to night. It's looking at a direction that I'm going in, stepping back, and realizing that is not the direction I want to go in and having the courage to change it. It is taking risks to try new things, meet new people, and have new experiences. It's living the best and most full life that I can. And that's what matters most to me!
