Them Apples!

Last week my mom gave us a TON of apples and pears grown in her orchard. I gave some away at Book Club last Wednesday but we still have just a TON. More than we could ever just eat. Plus they are truly organic so I don't want to waste such a treasure–and they were FREE!! Can't beat that.

I made homemade oatmeal with apples, walnuts, cranberries, and brown sugar but that only used one apple and me and Matt are the only ones who will eat it! LOL I thought maybe I'd make bratwurst and saurkraut with apples but usually that takes only one or two. Katie suggested we make apple muffins with some of grandma's home canned applesauce and then she realized that wouldn't use up any of the apples we already have! LOL What do you do with apples besides bake pie?

Last night we had our first Girl Scout meeting of the new year so when Katie, Matt and I got home, we were pooped. Not to mention we got home pretty late because the meetings are 45 mins from my house and we extended them to 1.5 hours because we are meeting every other week in the fall because of our kids' busy schedules. I'm not complaining–I love my girls and the parents and it is time I get to visit with my friends and Katie can see her long time friends too. I could easily join a troop up here but my troop right now is just too much of a good thing to give up. But I do have to drive a bit to get there and back.

Anyways, since I was late getting home, Xaver made dinner. Those yummy Rachel Ray inspired Asian patties with cabbage — sounds nasty but they are scrumptious. I made a comment about what to do with all the apples and then retreated to the bedroom, my computer's current home. I was in here working on SBR's newsletter and I smelled something yummy. Then Katie comes in and says, “The cobbler is ready”! Cobbler?! Xaver made homemade cobbler, including the crust too. And Katie helped. It was super yummy.

But before we could dig in, like a true scrapper I grabbed my camera and had to take some pics. Xaver wouldn't get in the pic but Katie did – she is a true “scrapper's daughter”. I am so excited because there is so much fun apple stuff that came out this year for scrapping that I could use on the page! LOL October Afternoon, KI Memories, the fun apples I've been making on my Silhouette…

Can't wait to scrap these pics!! Now that Matt is down for his nap, I am going to work on picking up my scrap room and finding goodies to use on this page. I spent the AM cleaning the house because a water conservationist from the City came to inspect our front and back yards for a landscape program we are applying for and he had to come through the house–I was so embarrassed at the state it was in that I spent the morning cleaning it. So now off to the scrap room to clean and scrap in peace!!

  1. Ooo Jennifer! Wanna know a really delicious & quick recipe to use those apples w/?
Take about 4 green apples (perfect! you don’t have to go out & buy them!), a packet of butterscotch pudding mix, a container of Cool Whip (I like the light kind) & some peanuts. Cut the apples up, sprinkle the powder mix over it, throw it in the cool whip w/ some peanut, & Ta-da! Candied apple surprise! Tastes just like a candied apple… enjoy!

  2. I can’t believe how grown up Katie looks!! ANyways we make “fake apple pie” with our apples..I peel them and core them and put them in thier own remikens (sp?) in the center of the apples I stuff real butter and sprinkle a TON of brown sugar all over the apple…I bake it in the toaster over (no need to heat the oven for the small remikens!) the smell is delish!!! We call it fake apple pie because it has no crust..add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you are in heaven!!!

  3. UMMM! Their cobbler looks so yummy! And, I love Katie’s new do- It really highlights her beautiful face.

I’ve got to try all the great recipes. We are pretty boring around here and just slice and dip our apples with peanut butter.
