Dude, Where is Wednesday?

Oh my goodness…just too much to do! So Wednesday went and gone and now I am posting what I was gonna post yesterday, today. If I have time, I will post another one tonight because I will be out of town all weekend and won't be back up and blogging until June 1.

Why June 1? Because on June 1 I will be blogging about Black, White, and Craft All Over!!! The Scrapbook Royalty Committee is making the rounds to all the stores on this fun road trip event on June 1- it's a tradition, we always go to the Black & White events on the first day. Yep, it starts June 1 so make sure you go sign up and all that–you can sign up through the end of the month but the event ends June 30 so you'd better get going. You can sign up HERE.

Wanna have an event like this in the Inland Empire? Well, we're working on it! Think “10 Freeway”! More news to come after we get the list of stores and dates finalized–it's going to be a jolly good time!

I have actually been sneaking in some crafting too…When some friends of mine and I went to the Red Bee to crop this past weekend we got there an hour early (go figure, I was driving) so we found a Michael's, at their request, and went shopping. Well, you all know how I feel about shopping at box stores; they are good for Christmas trees and baskets but I try to buy all my scrappy stuff at the LSS. Anyways, I heard Michael's had a new line of Prima goodies in so I checked them out–two new lines, a rock star one and then a nursery type line called Nursery Tales. My sister had just told me she is having a baby girl which meant I needed some goodies to make her a few gifties so…

I made this sign for her baby's door. It has a little spot for the baby's photo. The bottom section can be flipped to show the baby's name (blank because she has not yet chosen a name) or to say “Shh…baby's sleeping.” I used Zutter's clipboard wood for the base and the flip part of the sign. It comes in packs of two covers so I used one 8×10 cover for the base and then had my husband cut the other one down to 3×10 for the bottom part. I have two rough and tumble nephews who will no doubt be slamming the door this sign hangs on so it needs to stand up to alot of abuse. I love that Clipboard Wood is so durable–who would've thought of using it?

I painted the edges of the wood, then distressed paper with an edge distressor and Tim Holtz Distress Ink and adhered that to the wood. Then I decorated.

One thing I cannot stand is having too many tools out at one time. My table gets cluttered enough as it is so taking one more tool out just makes it worse. I wanted to hang this sign with the ribbon from the Nursery Tales collection from Prima but had no idea where my Crop A Dile was. But hey, I have the Bind It All, right? So I punched two holes in each corner of the sign with the BIA. Then I thread ribbon through–no knots needed! Here's how I did it:

1. Punch two holes with the Bind It All in each of the top corners of the project:

Insert a piece of ribbon through one of the holes. Tweezers help get thicker ribbons through. Thicker ribbons will require less wrapping because their fibers will grip against itself and they fill in the punched hole better than thin ribbons. I chose this fuzzy white fiber-like ribbon to form the hanger for this sign.

2. Then insert the ribbon into the other hole. Make sure you leave some slack.

3. Insert the ribbon back through hole 1, making an “o”.

4. Insert the ribbon back through hole 2. If the end of the ribbon is on the back of the project, go to step 5. If not, then push the ribbon through hole 1 again until the end is sticking out the back of the project.

5. Stick the end of the ribbon under the loop in the back. Start pulling the loops of ribbon until they tighten.

6. Once all the ribbon loops are tight, see if your hanger will hold your project. Trim off any ribbon end that sticks out from the back of the project. You can braid on additional ribbons like I did ont he final version of the sign, securing loose ends with a couple of glue dots on the back of the project.

Prima's Nursery Tales collection is so super cute and perfect for either a boy or girl–I have so many friends & family expecting right now that I cannot wait to make gifts and cards from this line to give to them and their little babaies. I love the way the ribbon is packaged, coordinated, and cut, those heart faceted gems are the BOMB, and the felt Voila borders are to die for. I peeled the back off the Voila felt and sprinkled it with Diamond Dust glitter and then added it to the sign.

I bought soooooooo much paper (it came in a stack) and have some other leftover goodies from this project so I am doing a giveaway!!
