Simple Five Fridays #2 – Five Ingredient Cards

I have been working on an altered project in my scrap room and now I have a bunch of leftover scraps of black, white, & turquoise papers. What am I going to do with all these scraps?!?!

This is like the worst problem plaguing scrappers, next to staying organized. It's like a bad word so I have to spell it out instead of saying it…

We all have them. I know you do. Don't try to deny it! And if you're like me, you even try to hang on to the tiniest of ribbon scraps too. No problem–we'll be using both to make these cards.

Also, I recently met Tammy I and if you don't know her, she is like the greenest scrapper ever! I was sorting my chip alphas last night and I had all these Heidi Swapp ones the glue came off of so I was popping them out of the package to put in my drawers. This morning I saw the pile of the “negatives” the packaging, sitting on top of the desk and I had a Tammy I moment. “I could USE those on some cards!!!” So I pulled them out with my scraps to see what would happen!

Okay, well, I can't make just “a” card…how about five cards? With 5 basic items. That way it is easy to put stuff away.

Supplies:
Card Bases (you can make your own with cardstock or use pre folded cards like I do)
Scraps of paper
Some leftover chipboard from a chipboard letter package
Tools: Bind It All Machine & Butterfly Punch
Scraps of Ribbon

I punched butterflies from the smallest scraps. Alot of the paper was double sided so I could either side too.

Here I used a piece of that chipboard alpha packaging and the filled in the letter “U” with stickles to make the “Thank U” sentiment. I also tied ribbon scraps through the letters on the left side. Oh, and I did bring out a stamp and stamp the card too.

This one is super simple. I just let the paper decide how the card was going to go. Another punched butterfly in the center of a circle and then a scallop (okay, I admit I had to get a couple more punches out).

This week I also used a fun little technique with the Zutter Bind It All on some of the cards. I created two side by side rows of holes through which ribbon could be tied, threaded, or just do something fun with the holes. Here are two cards I did with this technique:

On this one I threaded ribbon through the holes. I didn't even have to use glue–the ribbon was wider than the slot so it just stayed stationary once it was threaded in.

Here I tied little bits of ribbon through each pair of holes to make a vertical border. Then I added a rub-on sentiment to the left of the ribbon row. On this card I also used the negative space from a scrap I punched butterflies out of for the other cards.

Here's the step-by-step to try this technique yourself:

1. Fold about an inch wide strip of the paper over.

2. Insert the folded edge into the Bind It All Machine and punch.

3. Remove the paper and unfold the folded edge.

4. Now you're ready to weave ribbon through, tie strips of ribbon through the slots–just whatever!
