We're super excited to introduce Susie Bentz as this month's kit club guest designer! One of the things I really love about having guest designers is that we all get to see some really interesting ways to use the kits, from various perspectives. I love what Susie did with this month's kit on this nostalgic scrapbook page. It's this time of year that I think we really start to get nostalgic – the holidays are coming and we start to plan for them, remember years past, and dust off the scrapbooks to share around the dinner table. Check out Susie's page tutorial below and be inspired by dreamy nostalgia:
The Hydrangea Hippo November Kit contains a generous selection of retro patterned paper featuring ticket stubs, doilies, prize ribbons, word strips and other fun bits of ephemera! As soon as I saw it I knew that I had finally found the perfect paper to scrapbook a photo from a visit to Graceland – a much younger me in front of Elvis' Pink Cadillac. As the ribbon says, it was a “Most Wonderful Day”, indeed!
I started by creating a mat for my 5″ x7″ photo with this cute bird print paper:
Next I fussy cut a doily and inked the edges before I tucked it behind the picture:
The strong horizontal line below the photo was created with a strip of tickets from this fun paper:
I finger pleated a length of tan crepe paper and placed it behind the ticket strip, tucked in another doily, added a button, a ribbon flower, and a line of sequins.
All the tags, word strips and bits of retro ephemera were all trimmed out of one sheet:
The rhinestones in the kit were the perfect accent for the crystal flower bead – and to create a “flash” on the camera tag!
But my favorite embellishment is the flower I created from the pink polka dot crepe paper!
It was very simple. I took about a yard of crepe paper and wrapped it in loops over my fingers
Next I cut through all the layers, creating 3 small curves along the top edge and clipping both sides:
Take each piece of crepe paper and gather it into a petal, flattening the bottom edge and adhereing it to a small cardboard circle:
Continue adding petals and layers until you are happy…
…and then finish it off by adding one of the beautiful buttons from the kit to the center!
Thanks so much to Jennifer for giving me the chance to play with this fun collection! Absolutely everything I used on this layout was included in the November Kit! I hope I have given you a little inspiration and I hope you find some time to play today!
