Today we're putting the last touches on Katie's Halloween costume. She wanted to be Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas.
She's 12 now, going on 13 this year, so its a perfect time to foray into the world of sewing. We're starting with a T-shirt base for the dress and adding the patchwork. Its 90% her and 10% me ;) Hopefully she'll have fond memories of this Halloween!
She laid out all of the patches of fabric onto the Tshirt dress we made and pinned them in place, using a photo of Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas as a reference. Then she used the sewing machine to stitch each patch in place. To make the T-shirt dress base we used two mens XL t-shirts in grey, you know the Hanes one you get in the bag. We cut across the middle of the second shirt, from armpit to armpit to cut off the necklace and sleeves to leave a “tube”of fabric. Then we sewed this to the bottom of the first t-shirt make it longer, esentially, to make it into a dress.
The costume turned out great!
May I come next year with my still 12 y.o ?
how fun! Can’t wait to see her all dressed up :)
this is awesome! I know Katie is going to be as crafy as you!
My daughter is the exact same age and is Sally today too. She painted her Goodwill-purchased skirt and top. I love that she did it all herself!
