Today I am using Spellbinders S4-288 Classic Diamonds die template and Donna Salazar product to create an economical card full of texture!

I used Donna Salazar's Crafty Chronicle to create the tree on this card using the Spellbinders S4-288 Classic Diamonds die template. I layered 4 pages of the Chronicle together and cut them all at once.

Making sure the set of 5 diamonds were lined up on top of one another, I stapled them together in the center of the diamond. No fancy stapler needed–this one is from my office.

After stapling, fold the diamond shape in half to form a triangle, No need to be scientific here. In fact, the messier the fold, the better.

Repeat this until you have 3 folded diamonds of the large template, 5 of the medium template, and 5 of the small template.  Arrange the large diamonds along the bottom of the card and adhere as pictured here:

Add a second row of diamonds using the medium folded diamonds.

Continue building the tree using smaller and smaller diamonds as you work your way to the top of the tree.

Once the tree is built, place the card into a Color Catcher by Clearsnap. This will catch all of the excess spray ink from spraying Smooch Sprtitz and keep the workplace tidy.

Choose several shades of green Smooch Spritz. Liberally spray any one of these colors onto the card.

Spritz the card with water to help disperse the Smooch Spritz and to also further moisten the layers of the Chronicle.

Use a tooth pick or sharp tool to separate all the layers of the Chronicle. Crumple as you go along to give the tree added texture.

Add a star to the top of the tree:

Crumple and pinch the edges of the paper to make them curl.

Use a Chalk Fluid Ink Cat's Eye in Chestnut Roan to distress the edges of the paper.

Adhere the card front to the card base and add a sentiment. Easy peasy!!

Supplies:
Dies – Spellbinders
Newsprint – Crafty Chronicle by Donna Salazar
Ink, Spray Ink – Clearsnap
Flower – hydrangeahippo.etsy.com
Staples – Swingline
Cardstock – Couture Cardstock, Bazzill
Simply leave a comment on my blog to be eligible to win the Spellbinders Holiday Hoppin’ Prize Package!  One winner will be chosen from all the comments on all the blogs participating today.  Comments made in the first 48 hours of this post will be eligible to win.  Winner’s names will be published on the Spellbinders Blog on November 22, and they will have 48 hours to reply to Spellbinders to claim the prizes.

  1. Love the technique! Reminds me of the old Readers Digest Christmas trees and the computer punch card designs.( I was just a child then :-)) With this smaller version I see wreathes, and maybe even smaller versions to use for “nap” on little animals etc. (Bunnies & Chicks for Easter / Spring?) Gotta experiment with this one. Thanks!
