It isn't like it is spring or anything but something's got me getting me organized. Maybe school starting? Maybe because I have been on “vacation”? Maybe I just like having big projects with even bigger messes going on in my house all the time…well, not really.
Because I am a busy body and I am not teaching classes these next couple weeks, I've been busying myself with cleaning stuff up and one project just spawns another and another and another.
Scrappy Yard Sale stuff from Matt's room spills out into crop room and garage.
Clean the scrappy room to get ready for my crop.
Stuff spills into the crop room.
Clean the crop room for the crop.
Stuff spills into the hall closet and garage.
And a huge pile of layouts spills into the master bedroom, layouts that were in the crop room.
Clean the garage out so we can put the cars in there.
Stuff spills into the family room.
Go through scrappy stuff in family room to send it to Collective Journey yard sale. Two bags come back. No!!
Clean the hall closet.
Stuff spills back into the crop room.
Discover long lost photos and mementos in hall closet.
Start organizing photos in family room.
Figure that I don't know which pics are scrapped and which are not. And I know some events have already been scrapped 3x (once for me and once for each kid) but I want to keep the photos that were leftover. Don't know what date this huge pile of photos were taken!
Pull the layouts from the Master bedroom.
Start a new project of putting my albums in order.
Decide I need ALOT more scrapbooks that what I have on hand. This is just the last 5 months of 2008 in this bin:
Discover that about half my layouts for 08 and 09 are on display at stores. Like this layout here–one page was in a store (left) and the other (right) was in the book so now I gotta figure out how to squeeze that page in:
Decide I need to go on the computer to figure out what I've scrapped, how many pages, etc to leave room for missing stuff.
Give up and start posting on my blog.
So that is where I am at right now. To take a little break from this craziness let me share with you a calendar/magnetic memo board I made last month:
I got all the base supplies from Tall Mouse when I was on April's Birthday Shop Hop earlier last month. The base supplies came in a kit with a frame, calendar transparency, and a sheet of metal for about $20. I also got some mini dry erase markers for writing on the transparency. Each entry is color-coded for each person so we all know who is going to be where and when. I also added the dinner menu to days when I know what I am going to cook so Xaver kows what to expect and not to eat the same thing for lunch.
I decorated the metal sheet with some scrap paper then laid the transparency on top and put it in the frame. I stapled May Arts ribbon to the frame with a staple gun and tied the two pieces in a bow to make a hanger. Xaver put a decorative hook in the wall in the hallway for me to hang it on.
I made a sign for each month using more scrap paper from my stash and some loose embellies. I put a couple magnets on the back of each sign so it will stick to the top part of the calendar. Then I put an envelope on the back of the frame to hold the months I am not using.
It's a fun, scrappy way to help my family stay organized and for me to ge a little creative using up old supplies. Katie is really into it and Xaver likes that he knows what I am doing at a glance. Apparently I forget to let him know when I was cropping a couple times … um, yeah, I am cropping like every weekend! LOL I bet you can make one of these for a little less moolah than I did but if you don't want to go through all the effort, go to Tall Mouse and get the kit. It took me only one afternoon to put it all together. Now back to the organization grindstone!
