I fell in love with the April Mixed Media kit from Hydrangea Hippo when I saw what Jennifer Priest did with it. I had a wonderful time creating my own project with the kit.

I decided to use ribbon as a background, so I adhered strips of the mustard striped ribbon to a sturdy piece of paper. The paper helped to hold it all in place as I reassembled the embroidery hoop. After everything was together, I cut the gold doily down until it was just the right size to peep out from behind the finished hoop. I attached it easily with hot glue.

Then it was time to embellish! I folded a piece of the book paper in half and I used my Cutterbee scissors to cut a freehand butterfly. I wanted the design to be more whimsical and less structured. I applied dark blue Stickles around the edge of the butterfly to add a little more sparkle.

Remember the 100 Proof Press blog hop we did a while back? I used another one of their stunning stamps on this project. It's the beautiful doily stamp that you see in my detail photo below.

This project now has a place of honor in my living room! The kids want me to make one for their rooms too. I could totally see making embroidery hoops in a variety of themes.

It started with jewelry, beading, sewing, home decor, painting, basket weaving, pottery, and cross-stitch. Marry that to an entrepreneurial spirit & at 9 years old a girl is selling her wares at craft fairs as far as her parents and grandparents would drive her. These days, Jennifer enjoys crafts of all genres from sewing to scrapbooking to jewelry with a little dabbling in the mixed media world. Her style is approachable and she wants everyone who sees her work to feel that they too can embrace creativity and make their home and life beautiful.
