I personally do not own a Flip Pal™ Mobile Scanner but I definitely have ideas on ways to use it! Over the last year or so I have been trying to work through my stash of personal scrapbooking supplies. Unfortunately, sometimes I don't have enough of the product I need for a project and am unable to get more due to store and manufacturer closures. I created the card below for the Clearsnap Color Challenge #7 (going on NOW on the Clearsnap blog) and I had only a smidgen of this fabulous satin “merci” ribbon. I have been wanting to make cards with it for years but since I only bought a yard of it, I have been overly cautious about cutting into it. As I was making my card it dawned on me that I could use the Flip Pal™ Mobile Scanner to scan the little ribbon tab I made so I could print it out to use on more cards once I exhausted the supply of “merci” ribbon. Now, we do get into tricky territory here with copyrights and so on but as long as there are no plans to sell or profit from the work and it is only for personal use, then no harm done. This is all at your own risk though.
Once the image is scanned, I could then manipulate it in my Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software to cut on out the printed image using my Silhouette Cameo Digital Cutting System. We'll be doing alot of this technique in my upcoming online Silhouette Printables class starting at My Creative Classroom this week.
Could you imagine all the things you could do by combining the Flip Pal™ Mobile Scanner with your Silhouette!!?? With the lid in place, the scanned image would have a white background, making it extremely easy to trace the image and create a print + cut shape from it. Using a photograph of the same item would require editing in Photoshop or painstaking hours of manually “tracing” the image in the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software. I'll take the Flip Pal™ Mobile Scanner please!
A far less risky idea, as far as copyright, is to scan paper you've painted or sprayed with ink to create your own patterned paper. Many times the paper warps and bubbles due to the addition of water or saturating it with ink, making it near impossible to get a good photograph of the work. I would love to scan some of the backgrounds I have sprayed with Smooch Spritz in order to create my own paper to use again and again. Plus, the scanned images could then be used as graphics for my blog, etsy shop, and so on. The advantage of the Flip Pal™ Mobile Scanner is that you can keep it right on your work table and scan as you go, whether you are near a computer or not.
