I recently posted a picture of my sad, naked mantle to Instagram and asked if I should decorate for Valentine's Day or just skip to Spring colors. Everyone said “Valentine's Day” but no one in my family really loves pink. I decided to create a pretty, wintery Valentine's scene on my mantle using felt as the main centerpiece. I recently went to the Craft & Hobby Association trade show and brought home loads of felt from my favorite felt company, Kunin Group! The pretty felt heart garland I created stands at the center of everything. You won't believe how easy this is to make!
For this project, you'll need some basic craft supplies. You can pick these up at your local craft store or online – I've compiled a list of handy dandy affiliate links here to help you out. If you buy from these links, they throw me a few pennies so I can buy more stuff like felt to make more DIY projects to share.Supplies:
- Kunin Felt Sheets (9″x12″), 2 per color
- Sewing Machine
- Sizzix Big Shot Machine
- Sizzix Heart Die
- Aleene's Tacky Glue
- Twine
This garland is now one of my favorite things! I am so happy with how it came out and it costs under $20 to make! After the holiday is over, it folds up flat for easy storage. If you don't sew, you can create this by gluing the hearts together where the sewing machine seam is. Here's how to create this garland, start to finish:
Isn't that fun?! I kind of want to create them out of all kinds of shapes now!! The best part is that Kunin Eco-Fi felt is totally recycled!!! I can feel really good about using this product to make my garland, knowing that it will last a long time and it is good for the environment.
